19 weeks and counting...

Here's my latest pregnancy bump - it's gotten quite a bit larger in the past few weeks. I will be 22 weeks tomorrow - our little man is due to arrive on July 31st. My lower back is already KILLING me - any suggestions from any of you recent mommy's for back pain relief? The saddest part about my expanding belly is not being able to get up out of comfy couches any more....at our church kinship group on Wednesday nights, I have to sit on a stiff-backed chair now instead of sinking into the nice cushy couch, and I can't get off our couch here without Dru heave-ho'ing me off. :( The best part about growing this much is that Dru can now feel the baby moving, backflipping, and rolling around! How neat the first time we got to experience the baby's movements together with Dru's hand squished against my belly. Our son loves to hear his daddy's voice - he usually starts jumping around when Dru comes home or when Dru prays for him.

21 weeks

This week Dru and I did a classic Maine event and attended the Maine Maple Sunday - several local maple syrup houses open up their doors and let the public tour them, watch maple syrup being produced, and try samples of all kinds of maple goodies (maple snow - shaved ice with maple syrup poured on it, maple cotton candy, and hard maple candies). We had an odd middle-of-the-afternoon snow flurry just when we arrived to the maple house, which was fun except for the fact that I'd accidentally worn my house slippers out instead of shoes (much to Dru's mirth and delight - I had been chiding him right before we left the house that he needed to be more attentive to details...I chalk it up to "pregnancy brain!"). Dru had to capture the moment on camera.
The "sugar shack"
In the steam room, where they heat the sap to almost 300 degrees F!
The house slippers....woops!

March Through History

Dru's aunt and uncle in North Dakota sent us pictures of Dru and Dru's dad, Burton, when they were kiddos. We thought we'd post them along with our little guy's ultrasound photo - see the resemblance? :)

Dru - 2 years

Burton - 1 year

Little One - 19 weeks

Will He Ever Remember?

We're more than half-way to the arrival of our little man. That realization triggered a small bout of panic for me as I started thinking about the nursery, crib, clothes, bags, toys, diapers, formula, etc etc etc..... So, I dragged my ever-patient husband down to Babies 'R Us down in Portland to start looking at "baby things". What we found was slightly overwhelming - 150 different nursery themes for baby boys, girls, or unisex. WHAT?!? By the time he's 4 he'll have outgrown the "ABC's" theme and want something cool like Power Rangers instead - is it worth the $176 for a 4-piece bedding set that he'll use for 3-4 years? OF COURSE IT IS! Look how CUTE these nursery themes are! Dru snapped a shot of me next to one of our favorites - 'Ahoy Matey'.

After the shopping, my wise husband realized we needed a little "us time" - soon to become precious - so he took me to dinner and a movie. We still haven't bought our first baby thing yet, but we sure enjoyed a large plate of pasta.

Our Big News

We have finally arrived in the land of blogging! I guess it occasionally takes a monumental event in some people's lives to finally start this whole blogging thing. Well, our monumental event has arrived...

We're having a baby!!! We found out in early November that I was pregnant. So far the pregnancy is going well minus daily nausea and lots of trips to the porcelain throne. However, it has been 16 total days since I last made that trip, a record thus far in the pregnancy! Strange how pregnancy affects nearly EVERY part of my physical body - my eyes are blurry, things taste strange, I can't STAND the smell of some dishsoaps or woodsmoke, I am elated one second and am in the dumps the next, I am craving cheese 24/7 (ANYTHING cheese), my hair is huge one day and flat as a pancake the next, my skin is darkening, and I'm way more ticklish than I was. Weird. I have finally started feeling the baby move - I liken it to the sensation of swallowing a small hamster; very delightfully strange.

My belly continues to swell, athough I've only gained 8 lbs. so far. My baby bulge isn't huge yet(thankfully) but it's defiantely becoming uncomfortable when I'm sleeping.

17 weeks

We had our second ultrasound today to find out what we were having....IT'S A BOY!!! Here's his ultrasound pictures.

It's a BOY -the small white arrow is pointing to the "turtle" sign, AKA a penis.

Here he's got one hand under his chin (he's already pondering!) and one on top of his head. You can see his profile.

Here is his perfect little profile - he's got a tiny little button nose like his father. Isn't he adorable?! (I know...we're biased)
