Fin's First Week

One Week Old

Wow...hard to believe our little man is ONE WEEK old already! Everyone with children has told us to treasure every single moment of our child's life because those moments are here then gone so quickly. Must be true!

This has been a week of firsts for us. We had Fin's first "coming home" party - the evening we came home from the hospital, our dear friends the Salisburys came over to cook dinner for us. Mark brought port and cigars for him and Dru to celebrate the arrival of Fin "New Zealand style" - that's where the Salisburys are from and it's tradition there for the men to celebrate the arrival of sons with port and cigars (I don't know what they celebrate the arrival of girls with....fine wine and chocolate???).

Dru, Fin, and Mark

I also had my first drink of alcohol in 9 months!! Our friend Steve got us a lovely, smooth Spanish merlot to celebrate Fin's arrival. So, I availed myself of a little liquid heaven - delicioso!

Enjoying the sights and sounds of his first party :)

Fin also had his first sponge bath. He was NOT a big fan of his first bath but by the second one, he was a little less fussy, especially since Dru and I have discovered that Fin LOVES the sound of running water - it's the number one way to soothe him. So, we just let the bath water run while we sponge him off.

Call us crazy, but Fin also had his first visit to church on Sunday when he was only 5 days old. He was a huge hit; everyone wanted to get a good look at the Smedshammer baby. During the service, he was so good - not a peep, just slept through the whole thing.

Church visit!

Fin also had his first nap with Daddy. These pictures are absolutely precious. Dru's still figuring out the whole baby thing, but Fin can't tell that his daddy isn't a baby expert; Fin loves to snuggle down with him.

See the resemblance?!?

The following are random pictures of Fin during his first week....
Snuggled up in his swaddle

His "fish face" - he likes to purse his little lips a lot; maybe he just really likes his shirt??

Our congratulations bouquets from various friends and family

Who says he doesn't look like his Poppy Findley?!?

Sleeping in the sun

Curled up on his hands

Our little koala bear - he loves to wrap both arms around our torsos with his ear to our chests - I think he likes to hear our heart beats

Fin likes to sleep with his arms and legs crossed - this is exactly how he was sitting in my womb (just a little more tightly curled) :)

The boy loves his fingers and hands! He's always sucking on his fingers or has near his mouth. In fact, he was born with two small suck blisters on his index and middle fingers from sucking in utero.

What's this??? He's starting to focus his little eyes already - he loves looking at his hands and our faces.

  1. Oh gosh he's just so darn adorable! But what else did we expect with you two as his parents! Love the cuddling pics.

  2. I linked to your blog from Abbey's and wanted to say congratulations on the arrival of your precious baby boy. Funny thing is, my daughter shares his birthday. She just turned 2. The early weeks of sleep deprivation are not much fun, but everything else is an amazing journey. Enjoy!
